• Santee Chamber Weekly Update 06JUN24

  • Hello Santee!

Last night, we celebrated Santana High School's Class of 2024, and tonight, West Hills High School will do the same. Next week will truly put a bow on the end of the school year as the Santee School District dismisses over 6,000 students and promotes 8th graders from eight different campuses on Wednesday (my daughter being one of them!). The celebrations have been many, with several still ahead, but the first took place on May 21st.

The Santee School District held their regular Board of Education meeting, which happened to be my favorite meeting of the year—the one where they honor the top-performing 8th graders from their campuses in the Academic Achievement Awards ceremony. Each school honors two 8th grade students, and there are special competitions among them in areas such as writing, speech, and math. The highest honor, however, goes to their overall winner of the year, which was bestowed upon Jack Barrett of Chet F. Harritt School.

It was my honor to present Jack with a scholarship from the Chamber of Commerce to kickstart his savings for any post-high school education. Council Member Koval read a proclamation from the City of Santee, naming May 21st “Jack Barrett Day.” His school will also have the privilege of housing the district trophy for academic achievement, now with his name adorned upon it, along with many others accumulated over the past 50 years. Congratulations to Jack and his proud parents!
