    About Us

Rise Up Industries is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization working with formerly incarcerated individuals who grew up in street gangs. Our mission is to minimize gang involvement by providing integrated gang prevention, intervention, and post-detention reentry programs. We began this three-pronged approach with the Reentry Program with the intent that our program members and graduates will help us to structure our future prevention and intervention programs and serve as credible messengers to at-risk youth. In its sixth year of operation, the Reentry Program is an 18-month, full-time model where each member receives over 3,000 hours of service from employment and job-training to counseling and tattoo removal. We pay full-time wages to Reentry Program members as they work their way through the program.

A key component of our Reentry Program is our Machine Shop Social Enterprise, where members are trained for careers as CNC (Computer Numeric Control) machine operators. This is a well-paid trade that is in high demand. It also fills a critical skills gap in San Diego’s machining industry where demand for skilled CNC machine operators far outweighs supply.

The primary metrics used for assessing our impact in the community are employment and recidivism. Graduates of the 18-month Reentry Program have a 0% recidivism rate, while 100% were hired by local manufacturing companies upon graduation. According to national averages, formerly incarcerated persons have a 68% recidivism rate and only 55% find employment their first year after release.
