    Hello Santee!
A little over a week ago an old store received a new look in town… this store is known for its older things, in fact, it’s usually expected! That store is Goodwill in Santee on Mission Gorge Road (see image). For those who have been in Santee for a while, you might still slip up from time to time and refer to that location as Purple Heart (guilty!). Truth be told, when I go into a thrift store it’s usually to browse through their records. I’ll post up on their floor and start sorting through the tattered sleeves and hope to find something fun to add to my small vinyl collection at home. (This is exactly what I did back in January when the Salvation Army received its makeover and we were invited to their grand reopening as well.) But much to my surprise, we cut the ribbon and walked in and I saw much more than I bargained for: Original tags on items everywhere I looked. Brand name clothing at a huge discount. Perfectly curated outfits at the end of the aisles. Racks full of holiday themed items as if they know why you might be coming in that day… the place had me second guessing why I never looked past the music section! The parking might be a little tight, so pick a day when you have some spare time in your schedule and walk over from the next shopping center over and check out our local “thrift” shops.

After that, be sure to come out to the Santee Street Fair 2019 THIS Saturday May 25th. I get caught saying it often when referring to it, but, it’s my favorite event of the year. I have learned so much from hosting a community festival of this nature and continue so with each passing year. This will be my 6th year working the event and I am so proud of what we have on deck: 300 vendor booths, 2 stages of live entertainment, over a dozen food and beverages offerings, a carnival zone, an inflatable area and best of all, an exhibit to remind us why we have this three day weekend to claim as our own. With the help of Sycuan Casino ResortSan Diego Christian College and my incredible Board of Directors, the Santee Chamber of Commerce is so proud to bring back for the second year, Remembering Our Fallen. This photographic war memorial honors our country’s military fallen from The War on Terror (9/11/2001 - Present) and unlike brick and mortar memorials, Remembering Our Fallen is designed to travel and includes both military and personal photos. Its legacy will be that these men and women will be remembered and their names will be spoken, while helping to lessen the grief of their families. This particular exhibit includes the memorial for our home state of California, and we are humbled to have these heroes represented in Santee. Please look for the enclosed white tent in the middle of the fair, and pay your respects to those who paid the highest price they could.
