Last night we held a business mixer at Sportsplex USA, right in the heart of Santee in Town Center Community Park. For those who remember, Sportsplex entered into a partnership with the City of Santee back in 2003 but finally opened their doors to the public in 2010. This 20-acre sports park still manages to impress me 9 years later. You can read all about their nearly 4 million visitors and the highlights and economic impacts of this premier sports complex in the next issue of The Santee Magazine, but for now, get to know some of the people behind this premier community-minded establishment.
Eddie Vandiver (not pictured because he’s on a family vacation), General Manager, is easily one of the nicest people I have ever met. His thoughtful heart and hospitality background make him the perfect fit to lead the staff and answer to the thousands of adults that pass through their gates each week. His volunteer roles in our community strengthen his gift of discernment and allow him to always be kind, but fair (something we can all appreciate in the world of sports).
Chris Vertrees (pictured), Marketing Director, captures my attention with his love for the LA Kings but kept it with his innate ability to know and appreciate this facility from the inside out. He constantly impressed me with his profession and passion for his role. I could talk to Chris for hours and never feel lost in conversation because he has a true gift of connecting with people, getting to know their needs and then finding a way to fill those needs. He has so much talent, I’m envious.
Bill Berghoff (pictured), Owner, is a rare breed. People are drawn to him as he is a natural storyteller and tells the proud tales of his family and their journey. He never claims to have done anything on his own and often credits his father Paul for any ounce of his own success. He has an amazing balance of lightheartedness, joy, hard work and vision... you’d be blessed to know him as a friend or business associate. He and his team are truly what make Sportsplex USA “Your Place to Play”.
