  • Santee Chamber Weekly Update 21NOV19

  • Hello Santee!
I often see people online who have mixed feelings about growth in Santee. Change is inevitable and I understand the sense of mourning that comes along with the loss of something nostalgic. Even as an adult with kids of my own, I still reminisce or about days at Santee School where the now-empty lot awaits development, or the hours upon hours I spent at Roller Skate Land where the first friend I made there as a seven year old turned out to be the girl who rushed me off Santana’s campus during the scariest day of our lives. It’s amazing what you can feel when thinking about what was… But for as much as I like to think back to different parts of my life and remember Santee and how it was, I am equally as satisfied in all its become and better yet, what it will be. People complain about homes being too close, I say hi to my neighbors. They gripe about traffic getting on the 52 in the morning, I found a job where I live. Some might be upset there are too many chicken restaurants (this happens!!), I feel grateful I can afford to take our family out to eat. I firmly believe that perspective is one’s reality, so if you don’t think Santee is a wonderful place to live, work and play, you just may need some fresh perspective.

If you can’t find that anywhere near, may I suggest: a fresh donut! No, really. donuts make me happy. Saturday was the official grand opening of the Donut & Bagel Bar on Mission Gorge Road across from El Pollo Loco. It’s not everyday that a new business opens their doors and they celebrate with our Chamber, so I am always honored when we get to be included in these special occasions. Owners Kevin and Nary (pronounced like Mary but with an “N”!) have created a fun space with an extensive breakfast menu and grateful hearts. It was my pleasure to spend part of my morning in their store watching them serve each customer with pride and take pictures of families enjoying their goods. Mayor Minto, Councilman Hall and Councilwoman Koval also carved out time to stop by and celebrate, always there supporting local business and I had to grab an extra dozen donuts on the way out to share with our local firefighters after seeing all the reactions of those around me. Please be sure to carve out some time to check out their shop soon and a word to the wise, arrive hungry!
