Yesterday I began my first of three days at a conference in Anaheim. I’m accompanied by over 400 other professionals in the chamber industry, all trying to take our organizations to the next level. Not only do I feel incredibly blessed to have a job I love, but I also realize what a huge opportunity it is to be part of a conference which allows me to stay at the Happiest Place on Earth, Disneyland! Having grown up in Southern California, it doesn’t make me unique when I announce that I love Disney. However, each time I come here I feel a uniqueness in that every visit is special. I’m thrilled to be part of a conference with a theme based around the beloved character, Dumbo and a quote from the film: Don’t just fly, soar. And I can’t wait to carry some of this energy home as a strive to make our member experiences special as well. And look, I even managed to find a Chamber of Commerce inside California Adventure!
I find great irony that Disneyland opened the same year as the Santee Chamber (1955). As we both celebrate our 64th anniversaries this summer, I think it’s safe to say that Disneyland is a more recognizable brand than ours! However, with each class I attend and each Cast Member I interact with, I am reminded that there is always something to learn as long as you are willing to grow. Walt Disney himself said, “Disneyland is a thing I can keep molding and shaping.” This can be true for a chamber of commerce as well. So long as we are here, our doors are open for business and we want to continue molding and shaping our organization to fit your business needs. If you have an idea for something you’d like to see happen here in Santee that the Chamber can help with, please email me your suggestion and I promise to you, I will genuinely put my sincere effort into making it happen.
