Last week my husband and I had a chance to get up close and personal with the City of Santee's Fire Department. Unlike many of my interactions with EMS personnel in town, this was unexpected and unfortunately, a little unwelcomed to begin with. Our son dislocated his shoulder while playing in a high school water polo game. Although we never want to see our children get hurt, when they do, it feels comforting to be able to rely on the medical professionals around us. I am grateful for some amazing coaching staff through GUHSD's West Hills campus, the quick response times of our Fire Department, and mostly, the fact that our son wasn't permanently injured.
Few people know, but the Santee Chamber has an active role as a member of the advisory board to the County for CSA-69: County Service Area Number 69. This is an area designation given back in the 70s to provide ambulance transport service in over 60 square miles of what was then, an all-unincorporated area of east county. The County Office of Emergency Medical Services provides contract administration which is governed by the County Board of Supervisors and revenues then fund contracts with the City of Santee Fire Department and the Lakeside Fire Protection District to provide services within the boundary. An Advisory Board provides input to the Board of Supervisors and the Santee Chamber is proud to be part of that Advisory Board, representing the safety of our local business community and residents at large.
