    Hello Santee!
This past week has been busy despite me taking a long weekend off after the Santee Street Fair. Let’s start with the groundbreaking of the new labs and classrooms for Grossmont Union High School District’s Health Occupation Center located adjacent to West Hills’ campus. This project funded through the Construction Bond Program (supported by Proposition U and Measure BB) is a much needed upgrade from the site’s current modular buildings. The new buildings will continue to support career-training programs for students attaining credentials in high-demand medical careers such as Dental Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, Pharmacy Technicians, Licensed Vocational Nurse, Emergency Medical Technician and Phlebotomy Technician. This state-of-the-art complex boasts over 16,000 square feet and is scheduled for completion in December of this year.
As the school year is about to end for the Santee School District, it was my pleasure to attend a Board of Education meeting on Tuesday to recognize some standout students in our town. Each year, the district recognizes the top 8th grade performers of each campus with an Academic Achievement Awards ceremony. The Santee Chamber is proud to be a longtime partner of the District and award the top among even that group, the Student of the Year, with a certificate, trophy with their name added to it (to be passed on year after year) and a $100 scholarship to put towards future educational needs. This year’s winner was Ireland Ervin of PRIDE Academy, and she could not have been more deserving.
And just yesterday, a Santee favorite of mine received an official transformation… the restaurant located at 10251 Mast Boulevard, formerly known as Oishii, has been relaunched as Thai Thai Santee. The initial news was shocking to many as Mike and Patty have grown quite the regular crowd for their amazing sushi. However, it was my pleasure to go in and see the transformed space and newly expanded menu as the couple was there, giving their blessing as a family member took the reins. They showcased items from soup and egg rolls, to curry and pad Thai, and that was barley tapping the surface of their options. They even made me a custom Thai tea with boba to take on the road with me when I left! Needless to say, I will be back for more and we wish them so much success.
