Santee Young Professionals

About Us

The Santee Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that East County's first Young Professional group is now underway! This group, known as the Santee Young Professionals (SYP), has a goal of developing San Diego's young business leaders and entrepreneurs. The Santee Young Professionals began with the help of Santee Chamber of Commerce Staff and Board of Directors, with special assistance by Sarah Wood, Dustin Trotter, Rosanna Baluca, Kyle Whissel, Darcy Fagerwold, and Dustin Hayes.

In this age of social media and technology it is easy for young people in the business world to become separated from the old-school techniques of classic networking to build professional relationships. The Santee Young Professionals hope to provide a platform to develop San Diego's young business leaders and entrepreneurs through education, community service, and networking.

Get Involved

To become involved with the group, you must be an owner or employee of a Santee Chamber member business. Not a Chamber member yet? No problem, you can come check out an event to see if your company may be interested in joining.

Past Events

The group's first event was the Kickoff at Santee Lakes on Tuesday, October 25. The event's Presenting Sponsor was the Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve. Held under the gazebo with views of Lake 1 and Lake 2, the evening began with perfect weather and as the night went on the gazebo lit up with twinkling lights. As attendees arrived they were given color coded name tags. Networking was encouraged through bingo cards which attendees filled out by gathering information from individuals based on their color-coded name tags. Music provided by TNT entertainment filled the background while attendees enjoyed refreshments including beverages provided by Groundswell Brewing Company and Oggi's Pizza and Brewing Company. To document the evening, the guests had use of a photo area stocked with props including a specialized Instagram sign. Guests even had the opportunity to use a custom Snapchat filter to send photos of the night’s activities to their acquaintances. Elected official’s representatives came out to commemorate the beginning of the group and the individuals who were at the forefront of the project. Check out Santee Young Professionals on Facebook to see photos of the evening.

Wednesday, December 7  served as the first Lunch & Learn at Marieta's Fine Mexican Food in Santee with Karie Kaufmann of ActionCOACH speaking on the 4 Keys to Generating Quality Leads. The group learned the tips and tools to rev up lead generation and get a surge of new business. Attendees left this powerful, no nonsense workshop knowing:

  • The steps to effectively differentiate yourself from your competition so you can attract the right prospects
  • How to stretch your marketing budget to get maximum return
  • How to compete based on value, not price

We have since had a tax update by Cynthia Whitney, CPA including current and upcoming tax changes for businesses and individuals, and Dustin Trotter &  guest speakers on how getting involved and giving back is beneficial to you, your business, and the community. Attendees were exposed to some key organizations in Santee and learned how they can assist with bettering our City.

The first Sip with SYP event was held on Thursday, January 19 at 5:30pm at Groundswell Brewing(10151 Prospect Avenue, Santee) and served as a casual networking outlet. Participants enjoyed beers and delicious snacks while mingling with other young professionals. We have since held a Sip with SYP mixer at Finest Made Ales and Copper Collar Distillery.
